Katy Mahoney | CELLO

Katie Mahoney studied music at Florida Southern College, where she completed coursework in string pedagogy and studied cello with the principal cellist of the Lakeland Symphony. She began piano studies at age six, played violin for over fifteen years, and added classical and acoustic guitar at age fourteen. Ms. Mahoney studied cello for seven years and has performed with the Polk State College Orchestra and the Florida Philharmonia Orchestra. She has taught private music lessons for over six years and currently performs with the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Mahoney is passionate about sharing music through teaching, performance, church, and community events.

Bernard Bangura Jr. is currently pursuing a degree in Music Performance at Kennesaw State University, where he specializes in brass performance. He began playing brass instruments in middle school and continued developing his musicianship throughout high school. In addition to his academic studies, Mr. Bangura is an active performer, regularly gigging and playing for churches throughout the Atlanta area. He also teaches private lessons in both high and low brass, working with developing musicians in the local community. With a particular passion for low brass, including trombone and tuba, he also performs on bass trumpet, bringing versatility and depth to his teaching and performance.

Deborah Beasley | PIANO

Deborah Beasley brings over thirty years of teaching and performance experience to the Piano Department at Threlkeld Academy of Music and Arts. She has served as pianist for multiple churches in Georgia and Alabama and has extensive experience as a collaborative pianist, including accompanying choral ensembles and jury performances at Georgia State University. Ms. Beasley teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced piano students, emphasizing musical expression, strong fundamentals, and an appreciation for a wide range of musical styles. Many of her students have gone on to serve as pianists in church ministries and contemporary music groups, reflecting her commitment to practical musicianship and meaningful musical growth.

Honor Matos | VIOLA

Honor Maltos earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music from Georgia Southern University, following an Associate of Arts degree from Atlanta Metropolitan College. She began her musical training at age seven on viola and performed in orchestra through high school before expanding into musical theatre and broader performing arts. Raised in a multi-generational family of musicians and artists, Ms. Maltos developed a deep appreciation for music early in life. She currently performs with Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and Southern Strings Sinfonia and has appeared as a guest musician with additional ensembles. Ms. Maltos is currently pursuing certification as a Music Practitioner and is passionate about using music to inspire connection, creativity, and lifelong engagement in the arts.

Pastora Sanchez earned a degree in Music Education from Clayton State University. She began playing violin around the age of eight and quickly developed leadership skills, leading sectionals for younger students and peers by middle school. During high school, she discovered a strong passion for teaching and was inspired by her orchestra director to pursue music education as a career. Ms. Sanchez gained valuable performance experience through chamber ensembles and orchestral performances at community events and school outreach programs. She currently teaches private violin and viola lessons, serves as Orchestra Director at Woodland Middle School, and performs as a first violinist with the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra.

Pat Dodson holds a Master’s degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, an accredited Master’s degree in Music from the State of Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University. She brings over fifty years of experience as a Minister of Education, organist, and choir director. Ms. Dodson teaches beginning piano and beginning through advanced voice, emphasizing solid fundamentals, musical expression, and confidence. Her extensive background in church music and education allows her to guide students with both technical skill and musical sensitivity, fostering growth for singers and pianists at every stage of their musical journey.

Brad Beaton | SCOTTISH BAGPIPES

Brad Beaton brings decades of performance and teaching experience to the Scottish Bagpipes Department at Threlkeld Academy of Music and Arts. He began playing bagpipes at the age of fourteen and has since trained with some of the world’s leading pipers and instructors. Mr. Beaton has served as Pipe Major of a winning pipe band at the Stone Mountain Highland Games and other major competitions and has successfully competed as a soloist. He has founded and led two pipe bands and continues to perform regularly throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. Mr. Beaton is passionate about preserving the tradition of piping while helping students develop strong technique, musicianship, and confidence.

Michael Dwyer, BA, MT-BC, holds a degree in Music Therapy from California State University, Northridge, following earlier studies in World Arts and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles. A board-certified music therapist, he brings decades of experience as an educator, performer, and clinician. Mr. Dwyer began studying percussion at age six and piano at age twelve and has taught and performed since his teenage years. His background includes global music traditions and popular styles. As a music therapist, he has worked in hospice care, memory care, autism, traumatic brain injury, and developmental disability settings. Now based in Georgia, he teaches percussion, guitar, bass, piano, and music therapy at Threlkeld Academy of Music and Arts.

Tracy Threlkeld Beaton | PIANO | VOICE

Tracy Threlkeld Beaton studied piano and voice pedagogy at Clayton State University, where she also pursued private piano study with Dr. Michiko Otaki and voice study with Dr. Christina Howell. She is the Founder of Threlkeld Academy of Music and Arts, which she opened in August 2014, and continues to lead the academy while teaching private lessons. Ms. Beaton brings extensive experience as a children’s music minister, accompanist, and choral singer, and has served as Chapter President of the South Metro Atlanta Music Teachers Association. She teaches beginning through intermediate piano and voice, fostering a supportive environment that builds confidence, musicianship, and a lifelong love of music.

Lane McDuffie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and pursued additional music studies at Clayton State University, where she studied guitar with Dr. Bill Hearn. She is currently working toward an Associate Diploma of Guitar Performance with the Royal Conservatory of Music and has earned certificates in music theory and guitar performance. Ms. McDuffie has studied privately with Nashville session guitarist Andy Gurley and classical instructor Lyster Bass. She has been teaching since her student years and emphasizes technique, practice strategies, theory, and creative exploration. In addition to guitar, she teaches ukulele and group classes and enjoys arranging music and performing across a variety of genres.

Courtney Hughes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from Clayton State University, following an Associate of Arts degree in Music Entertainment Management from the Music Business Institute at the Art Institute of Atlanta. She brings several years of experience teaching private piano, flute, and voice to students ranging from age six through senior adults. Ms. Hughes previously served in the Music Department at World Changers Church International, where she was a leading member of the audition team, and now works as a vocal coach for praise teams in churches throughout the area. She is an active member of the Georgia Federation of Music Teachers through the Newnan Notes chapter, and her students regularly participate in National Federation of Music Clubs Festival auditions.

Hayward Redd is dedicated to developing well-rounded musicians while instilling a lifelong love of music in every student. Mr. Redd designs challenging and diverse lesson plans tailored to each student’s learning style, working collaboratively to identify strengths, address weaknesses, and set clear goals for growth. He frequently plays alongside students to model technique, tone, and musicality, fostering both skill development and musical connection. Through exposure to varied technical studies and listening to influential artists, Mr. Redd creates a supportive environment that encourages confidence, creativity, and long-term success in music and beyond.

Shannon Adams holds a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Music Education from Brigham Young University. A board-certified music therapist, she brings over ten years of experience working primarily in children’s hospitals. While at BYU, she studied organ as her primary instrument under Douglas Bush and had the unique opportunity to study and perform on the carillon. Ms. Adams is also a Kodály-certified elementary music educator and previously taught in public schools in Fort Worth, Texas. She remains active as a community and church accompanist and enjoys teaching organ, combining strong musicianship with a compassionate, student-centered approach.
