Music lessons are the cornerstone of the New School of Music experience, welcoming students of all ages and skill levels. Our faculty of qualified and passionate teachers conducts approximately 90,000 lessons annually, with over one million lessons taught since our founding in 1997. We offer instruction on a wide range of instruments, including piano, guitar, bass guitar, voice, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, drums, and percussion. Instrument Rentals
New School of Music offers the most competitive school band and orchestra instrument rental program in Atlanta and North Georgia. You can rent your instrument online or at our Buford, Lilburn, and Avondale Estates locations. We collaborate directly with your school’s band or orchestra director to ensure your student gets the perfect instrument. We rent flutes, clarinets, bass clarinets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, trumpets, trombones, French horns, baritones, percussion kits, bell kits, drum kits, violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. Instrument Repairs
New School of Music is known for providing reliable and timely repairs for nearly every musical instrument. We service brass, woodwind, percussion, and string instruments, from student models to high-end professional instruments. Our goal is to help all our students and customers reach their highest musical potential by ensuring their instruments are in perfect working order. Our personable and friendly technicians are NAPBIRT certified and offer honest assessments and expert repairs. They also provide helpful tips to keep your instrument in peak performance condition, reducing the need for future repairs. Meet our Founders
Rick Smith
Rick Smith id co-founder and director of New School of Music since its inception in 1997. He serves as Music Director of Gwinnett Symphony Chorus. Mr. Smith also serves as Music Director at Johns Creek Christian Church, and previously served in the same capacity at First Christian Church of Atlanta, (Disciples of Christ), in Tucker, GA. Mr. Smith maintains an active piano studio at NSM.
Robert Trocina
Robert Trocina is co-founder and director of New School of Music since its inception in 1997. Trocina has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra since 2006, and Music Director of the Georgia Ballet since 2019. He was appointed as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra in 2024. He also holds the position of Music Director for the Korean American Symphony Orchestra.
